Australian Club supports Singapore Hockey
The Singapore Hockey Federation and Carbine Club of Singapore will work together to provide opportunities for its players to spar and train amongst the world's best in Australia. This partnership will be formally announced on Monday, 5th September, 2011.
"This marks a significant partnership between a National Sports Association and the Australian Community in Singapore coming together to achieve something great. Australia has a rich hockey tradition and its men's field hockey team is ranked number one in the world," Mr. Chester said. "The experience gained through this exchange will fit nicely with SHF's goals of having a team which will be well prepared to contest for a place in the 2020 Summer Olympics."
The Singapore Hockey Federation will identify potential candidates within the National Teams who have the talent and aptitude to benefit most from such a stint in Australia. These identified athletes will be attached to Australian field hockey clubs where the athletes will train and compete at a high level in the domestic leagues.
The Carbine Club of Singapore - a philanthropic organization of prominent Singapore-based Australian businessmen - will provide aeroplane tickets, and arrange for other relevant training needs in Australia.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for our young athletes and sadly, not everyone will have the opportunity to go," said SHF President Ms. Annabel Pennefather. "However, it is SHF's hope and expectation that the fortunate few to have this opportunity will come back to represent Singapore and share their experiences with the rest of the community."
Added Mr. David Brooker, President of the Carbine Club of Singapore, "This exchange is just one way the Carbine Club is showing its support for worthwhile programmes. We are making plans with the SHF to support its development programmes. I believe that these development programmes can have a significant impact on the community and promote the spirit of sportsmanship."
