Lee Kuan Yew - Message from the Australian High Commission

Lee Kuan Yew – Message from the Australian High Commission, Singapore

Mr Lee Kuan Yew with his family.

Tuesday 24 March 2015

Singapore has lost a great man.

As a statesman, Lee Kuan Yew’s international standing is indisputable.

For his people, it was how he touched their lives in many different ways that made him special in their hearts.

Everywhere one looks in Singapore today, we are reminded of the legacy Mr Lee has left behind. From the highly educated population, to the high quality public housing, to the top class infrastructure and environment that continue to attract global investors and envy – his accomplishments were many.

But more than that, Mr Lee was also a Member of Parliament who took care of his constituents. He was a doting husband who loved his wife deeply. And he was a devoted father, not just to his children, but to an entire nation.

The seeds of friendship that Mr Lee has sowed and nurtured between Australia and Singapore lives on, and will continue to blossom.

The Australian High Commission in Singapore offers its sincere condolences to all Singaporeans at the passing of former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and encourages all Australians and friends of Australia in Singapore to pay their own tribute.

We encourage you to leave a comment on our Australia in Singapore Facebook page which shall serve as our virtual condolence book.

The Government of Singapore has its own online remembrance portals: www.rememberingleekuanyew.sg and Remembering Lee Kuan Yew on Facebook, which also contain details of the community sites around the island, where the public can pay their last respects.
