Singapore links strong among Australian Arts in Asia Awards finalists

Congratulations to the organisations and individuals with Singapore links who have been named finalists of the inaugural Australian Arts in Asia Awards.

Among the 69 finalists nominated across 14 categories, 16 had Singapore links, a testament to the strength of the arts ties between Australia and Singapore.

Arts Minister Tony Burke announced the finalists for the awards this week. The winners will be announced on Thursday 1 August.

The awards recognise, celebrate and promote the significant number of Australian artists engaging in Asia, contributing to stronger, deeper and broader cultural links with Asian nations.

The 14 categories are: partnerships, philanthropy, Indigenous, community engagement, innovation, individual artist, small to medium arts organisations, major arts organisations, visual art, literature, theatre, dance, music, and digital and film.

The finalists with Singapore links are:

LITERATURE

  • James Aitchison: Mr Midnight/Mr Mystery book series, Singapore
  • Ken Spillman: the Jake series, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam
  • Kim Cheng Boey: Clear Brightness, Singapore
  • Nicholas Mark: The Indoventurers, Indonesia and Singapore

MUSIC

  • Musica Viva Australia: Fine Music Touring Program, China, India, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam

DIGITAL AND FILM

  • Great Western Entertainment: Serangoon Road, Indonesia and Singapore
  • Herbert Pinter: Production Design for Serangoon Road, Indonesia and Singapore

VISUAL ART

  • Asialink: Shadowlife, Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan

PARTNERSHIPS
