Inaugural ‘Night Cries’ film festival brings Australia’s NAIDOC Week celebrations to Singapore
NAIDOC - 50 years: looking forward, looking blak (sic)
This weekend, Australia’s annual celebration of indigenous culture – NAIDOC Week 2007 – kicks off with a free indigenous film festival, ‘Night Cries’, at the National Museum of Singapore.
‘Night Cries: Indigenous Films from Australia and New Zealand’ is one of many events being held across the world to mark the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week, the theme of which is: 50 years: Looking Forward, Looking Blak (sic).
NAIDOC Week, 8-15 July 2007, celebrates Australia’s indigenous culture and the significant contribution indigenous Australians have made to shape modern Australia.
‘Night Cries’ is presented by the Australian High Commission in partnership with the New Zealand High Commission and the National Museum of Singapore. On offer is a selection of internationally-acclaimed, award-winning contemporary short and feature films from significant indigenous film makers from Australia and New Zealand, including Tracey Moffatt, Rachel Perkins, Warwick Thornton, Taika Waititi and Toa Fraser.
