MEDREL AUSTCHAM BUSINESS AWARDS 07

MEDIA RELEASE: 25 November 2007

Singapore’s ComfortDelGro awarded prestigious Australia-Singapore business medal

ComfortDelGro Corporation has been awarded the Austcham Commonwealth Bank Business Alliance Award 2007 in recognition of its contribution to Australia-Singapore trade and economic relations.

ComfortDelGro is one of six winners of this year’s Australian Chamber of Commerce Singapore (AustCham) Business Awards, which were presented at a gala dinner attended by more than 250 Australian and Singaporean business leaders on Friday 23 November 2007.

”The Austcham Business Awards recognise outstanding Singaporean and Australian companies and individuals who have contributed to the significant trade and investment ties between Australia and Singapore,” said Austcham Singapore President Mr John Dick:.

“ComfortDelGro is an extremely worthy recipient of the Commonwealth Bank Business Alliance Award. Its ties with Australian business and its contribution to the Australia-Singapore trade relationship significantly benefit both nations. Through its bus services joint venture with Cabcharge, ComfortDelGro’s investment in Australia provides a vital service in the State of New South Wales. Equally, its use of Australian goods and services in Singapore, such as Vigil Systems’ driver training technology and the Cabcharge taxi payment system, is expanding access for Australian technology businesses across the Singapore market.”

Other recipients of this year’s AustCham Business Awards include Australian architect Mr Geoffrey Malone, who received the Austcham President’s Medal 2007 for his contribution to Australia-Singapore cultural relations, particularly in the area of film. Malone is the founder of the Singapore International Film Festival, which is now in its 20th year and showcases more than 300 films from 40 countries, including a popular program of Australian films.

He joins a honour roll of high profile Australian and Singaporean business and international trade leaders who have been awarded the Austcham President’s Medal, including Kerry Hill, Australian architect (2006); Lee Hsien Yang, former CEO of SingTel (2003); BG George Yeo, Singapore’s Minister for Trade & Industry and Mr Mark Vaile, Australia’s former Minister for Trade (joint winners in 2002); and Chandra Das, Chairman of NTUC Fairprice (2000).

A list of winners of all six Austcham Business Awards 2007 appears below.

AustCham was officially formed in 1981 as the Singapore Australia Business Council. The organisation boasts nearly 600 individual and corporate members – comprising Australian, Singaporean and other global citizens.
