How can I get a job in Australia?
- You must arrange your employment before entry to Australia and have the employer sponsor you, so you can obtain a visa that allows you to work in Australia. For information about sponsorship by employers for temporary visas click here.
- You cannot arrive in Australia on a visitor visa and seek employment. If you have a student visa you will need to obtain prior permission to work from the Immigration Department.
- Nationals of some countries (who are under 31 years of age) are able to obtain a Working Holiday Maker visa that allows short term employment combined with tourism. Singapore nationals are NOT entitled to working holiday visas. Check Fact Sheet 55 at www.immi.gov.au for more details and a list of eligible nationalities.
- If you wish to seek employment in Australia, good starting points are on-line recruitment services, international recruitment agencies and the classified sections of the Australian newspapers (Type "newspapers" in the search field). The Australian High Commission in Singapore does NOT have information on job opportunities in Australia or a list of employers.
