Australian Federal Election 2010
The Federal Election will be held on Saturday 21 August 2010.
Voting
You can vote either in person at the Australian High Commission or by applying for a postal vote. You will need to know which Australian address you are currently enrolled at in order to be issued with the correct ballot papers for your electorate. You can check at www.aec.gov.au/check or by calling +61 2 6271 4411.
The High Commission in Singapore will be conducting early voting from:
Tuesday 10 to Friday 13 August (inclusive) 0900 to 1600
Monday 16 to Friday 20 August (inclusive) 0900 to 1600
By voting early, you may avoid queues and delays.
The High Commission in Singapore will also be open on the election day, 21 August from 1000 to 1800.
Alternatively, you can apply for a postal vote by going to www.aec.gov.au and printing off and completing an “Application for a postal vote” form. Postal vote applications are also available from the Australian High Commission in Singapore. Your ballot papers will then be sent to you to complete and post back. If you opt for a postal vote, apply now so that we can get your ballot papers to you in time.
The Australian High Commission in Singapore will not send postal vote applications after 6.00pm, Thursday 19 August.
For security purposes, please bring photographic identification (such a driver’s licence or passport).
Enrolment and Eligibility
The deadline for enrolment to vote has now passed. Those who are not enrolled cannot vote in the upcoming Federal Election. If you are an Australian citizen that has been overseas for more than three years, and not currently on the electoral roll, then you are not eligible to vote.
Enrolment and voting by Australians who are overseas at the time of the election is not compulsory. If you are not in Australia on election day you will not be fined if you do not vote. However, you should complete the overseas identification form available on the Australian Electoral Commission website.
If you are unable to attend an overseas voting centre to complete a postal vote, you should notify the AEC by emailing [email protected].
