Resident Return Visas
Detailed information about Resident Return Visas (RRVs) can be found on the Department's website
See: www.immi.gov.au/migrants/residents/ (Follow the links.)
As part of the 2011-2012 Mid-year Economic and Fiscal Outlook, the Australian Government announced that the validity period for Resident Return visas will be reduced from five years to one year where the applicant has not lived in Australia for more than 2 of the last 5 years. This change took effect on 15 February 2012.
If you think you are eligible for an RRV you should apply before your current visa expires - if your application is not approved you will then have time to return to Australia within the life of your existing visa.
If you do not return to Australia and you are not eligible for an RRV your only other option may be to reapply to migrate.
