Endeavours of Excellence Book Launch – 8 February 2011

On 8 February 2011, a new publication titled Endeavours of Excellence – 60 years of Australian scholarship in South and South East Asia, was launched by the Australian High Commissioner to Singapore H.E. Mr Doug Chester at his residence.

Endeavours of Excellence is commissioned by Australian Education International, the international education arm of the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations of the Australian Government. It celebrates the strong people to people links created through education activities between Australia and the countries of South and South East Asia by featuring stories of students from South and South East Asia who have reaped the benefits of an international education in Australia, and vice versa.

Present at the launch were former Colombo Plan Scholars Kirpal Singh, Associate Professor of English Literature & Creative Thinking at School of Social Sciences, Singapore Management University, Mr Seah Kian Peng , CEO of NTUC Fairprice Co-op Ltd and Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC,and Mr Bill Chua, Executive Vice-President & Chief Operating Officer, Global Markets & Investment Management of United Overseas Banking Limited (UOB). They were among the six Singaporeans whose achievements and experiences in Australia as students were highlighted in the book.

The other Singaporeans who shared their stories in the publication include former Colombo Plan scholars Dr Susan Lim, Surgeon and Chairman of Susan Lim Surgery & Group of Practice, and young Singaporeans Dr Muhammad Iqmal Abdullah and Ms Beverly Loke who had recently received the Australian Government’s Endeavour Awards. The scholarships have enabled to undertake post graduate studies in Australia at James Cook University and Australia National University respectively.
